At least 100 of us attended the Candlelight Vigil in Dover on Wednesday 1 December 2021, in memory of the 27 men, women and children who lost their lives crossing the English Channel. Deeply moving words from Enver Solomon, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council, who has personal experience of working at Eastern Dock, and from the Mayor of Dover, Gordon Cowan.

We also spoke to leader of Kent Group Seeking Sanctuary and to representative of PCS union which represents Border Force officers. PCS union and Care4Calais together are seeking a judicial review of Home Secretary’s cruel and ineffective policies.
The Bishop of Dover, Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin, also sent a video message, (on Dover SU2R Facebook page)
The event was supported by Kent Refugee Action Network, Dover Stand Up to Racism, Seeking Sanctuary, the Samphire Project and other Kent organisations.
