Wildwood Kent celebrates this half-term holiday
Insects are the most diverse and ecologically important group of animals in land habitats. Celebrate the wonderful “bug” this May half-term at Kent’s most popular native British wildlife park.
From Saturday 28 May – Sunday 5 June, Wildwood Kent will be helping visitors put a spring in their step with a host of fun “bug-themed” activities and a line-up of furry favourites.
There are over 24 000 known species of insect in the United Kingdom, with hundreds of species to be found in almost every garden and green space. Wildwood Kent will be celebrating this fascinating group of animals with daily activities for young insect enthusiasts, including face painting on Saturdays, bug hunts, bug crafts and even ‘I Spy’ (?) sheets for amateur detectives to go bug-spotting.
Butterflies are bugs
Wildwood are also teaming up with experts Butterfly Conservation who will be providing activities and giving visitors a chance to spread their wings on an interactive and educational Moth Trail. After all this fun, make sure to keep the energy levels up at the Woodland Café who will be serving up a delicious “darling” spread of summer picnic favourites including of course, Butterfly Cakes.
In addition to the bugs, eagle-eyed visitors may be lucky enough to spot a glimpse of some new additions to the park which include baby ravens, chough chicks, and baby storks. Meanwhile, don’t miss out on old favourites the gentle brown bears Fluff and Scruff, the graceful grey wolf pack, and the playful otters Loki and Freya.
For those looking to learn more about some of the park’s magnificent animals, there’ll be a host of daily educational talks (and some animal feeds) on everything from the bison and the bears to the owls and the otters.*
